£25 million secured for Goole Town Deal

In 2019, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, as it was then known, launched a Town Fund to encourage economic regeneration and deliver vital infrastructure in towns across the UK, with the aim of bringing them back to life. In response to this, Goole submitted an ambitious Town Investment Plan, setting out a series of deliverable objectives aimed at stimulating long-term economic growth. The plan was bespoke and unique to Goole, reflecting the town’s strengths and resources, as well as the complexities and challenges it faces. In June 2021, the Government confirmed that Goole was one of 101 towns nationally to secure a share of the Town Deal funding, having been allocated £25 million.

Delivery of the eight strategic projects earmarked for investment in the Town Investment Plan took place between 2023 and 2026.

From March 2026, as the Town Deal programme enters its exit strategy phase, each individual project will take responsibility for its own forward plan. For example, future updates on the Market Hall, Victoria Pleasure Grounds and Goole Leisure Centre projects will be overseen by their respective operators (Brew York, Goole Town Council and East Riding Yorkshire Council). East Riding of Yorkshire Council will continue to oversee delivery of the Public Realm and Property Activation Fund projects, and the Environment Agency will continue to oversee delivery of the Dutch River flood defence and greenway corridor project.
